Independent and assisted living senior community in historic downtown Mesa, Arizona

At Fellowship Square Historic Mesa, our primary mission is to provide a fulfilling lifestyle and promote independence to those we serve. As a Christian Care community, our caring, non-profit structure attracts kind, service-oriented people; both staff and residents.

This is evident each day in the outstanding and compassionate service our staff provides and in the wonderful, supportive friendships our residents form with each other. We encourage you to visit our special senior living community and experience it for yourself.

Levels of senior living care

Our community offers four levels of support to meet the varied and changing needs of our senior residents.

  • Independent Living is for active seniors, 62+, who would like some extra help with daily tasks so they can spend more time doing what they like to do rather than what they have to do.
  • Supportive Services (non-medical caregiver support) can be added to Independent Living when residents need help with things like surgery or illness recovery, medication management or shower assistance.
  • Assisted Living is available for seniors who need more help and 24/7 access to caregivers but still want to enjoy a private apartment.
  • Memory Care is for seniors who are struggling with dementia and need a secure, compassionate environment with specially trained caregivers.

Independent living

Independent Living residents are 62+ or disabled and just need a little extra help to maintain their independence. Maybe it’s because keeping up with the housework or yard work is getting tiresome. Or maybe home repairs have become a nuisance.

Perhaps cooking a nutritious meal just feels like a chore and a healthy diet deteriorates. Sometimes getting to the store or medical appointments becomes a challenge when one no longer feels safe driving. Maybe the problem is feeling isolated, bored or lonely.

The reasons vary, but one thing we consistently hear from our Independent Living residents is that they wish they’d moved here sooner so they would’ve struggled less and began enjoying their lives more.

There are many advantages to living in our Independent Living Community:

  • 2 community/dining rooms

  • 3 sparkling swimming pools
  • 2 computer stations
  • 4 dog parks
  • 2 libraries

Active senior living

Our Independent Living residents enjoy a wide variety of activities, social opportunities and volunteer roles that make it easy to stay active and enjoy a feeling of renewed purpose.

Check out our Independent Living monthly activities calendar to see what’s happening. You’ll find themed parties, Bingo, Pokeno, Painting, Wii Bowling, Chair Yoga, Needleworking, Choir, Bible Study and so much more. One Fellowship Square resident said, “If you’re bored here, it’s your own darn fault.”

Our Volunteer Coordinator and Chaplain, Kurt Stromberg, can help you find a new sense of purpose by matching your gifts, skills or interests with needs in our community. Perhaps you could help a sight-impaired resident read their mail, or walk a dog for someone who isn’t feeling well. Maybe you would like to help distribute newsletters or assemble marketing packets. Perhaps you’d like to help decorate for holidays.

Maybe you would like to have lunch with prospective residents and tell them what living in our community is like. Perhaps you’re skilled in a particular hobby and would like to lead a group activity or a book club. There are so many opportunities to help and have a reason to feel good.

Healthcare and wellness

Sometimes our Independent Living residents need a little more help than included services can provide. Perhaps it’s while struggling to recover from an illness or surgery. Maybe there’s been a decline in overall health or cognitive abilities. Whatever the situation, we understand that every resident is unique and so are each person’s needs. For example, those needs might shower and dressing assistance or medication management.

We also understand how mentally and physically draining it can be to get to off-site medical appointments. For these reasons, we’ve brought together a network of health services that are offered to our residents right in the comfort and convenience of home:

Primary Care – Curana Health

Home Health – Covenant Home Health

Non-Medical Home Care – Supportive Services

Fitness, Outpatient Rehab/Therapy – Functional Pathways

Palliative/Hospice Care – Aviant

  • Our caring, Christian, non-profit structure attracts kind, service-oriented people –residents as well as staff.
  • It is evident every day in the outstanding and compassionate service our staff provides and the wonderful, supportive friendships that our residents form with each other.

Who is Christian Care?

In 1979, a handful of devoted Christians recognized an opportunity to minister to Arizona seniors – particularly those with little financial resources. Realizing the need, they formed a 501© (3) non-profit organization and named it Christian Care.

Today, we have six senior living communities in Arizona: two in Mesa, one in Phoenix, one in Surprise, one in Tucson and one in Cottonwood.
