Sandra Smith
Assisted Living Director,
The Oasis
Sandra joined the Christian Care family in 2018 as a Health and Wellness Coach. Originally from the Bahamas, she came to Arizona in 1987 on a track and field scholarship to Northern Arizona University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.
Her path to senior living began through what she calls a “happy accident.” While operating a fitness studio near Fellowship Square Phoenix, one of her clients mentioned that she was preparing to become the Executive Director of the new Fellowship Square Surprise community. Sandra jokingly suggested that she could become the fitness trainer for residents. As it turned out, that idea wasn’t so far-fetched! After Surprise opened, Sandra was asked to fill in for the contracted fitness trainer, and what began as a temporary opportunity quickly grew into a new career path.
Sandra soon transitioned into a full-time role as Senior Wellbeing Specialist. In 2021, she moved into Social Services, where she continued supporting residents and families in a new capacity. In June 2026, she stepped into her current role as Assisted Living Director of The Oasis at Fellowship Square Surprise.
Throughout her career, Sandra has continued to expand her knowledge and experience. She is a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP), Patient Navigator, Community Health Worker, and a graduate of the Southwest School of Chaplaincy. She also holds a black belt in karate—a credential she proudly counts among her degrees!
Sandra’s faith is central to both her life and leadership. One of the principles that guides her comes from Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as unto the Lord, not man.” She is also inspired by the philosophy, “What we do in life echoes in eternity.” Her relationship with Jesus Christ is deeply important to her, and she serves on her church’s worship team, where she plays percussion.
Outside of work, Sandra enjoys staying active, spending time outdoors, traveling, volunteering, and participating in worship. She brings energy, faith, and a genuine heart for people to everything she does.
